Chemical change through cooking

This morning we made pancakes. It was a experiment on chemical changes. We followed a scientific method, the first method was asking questions. There were many questions asked. The ingredients we added were flour, sugar, milk, eggs, baking soda, after that we all went to the hall and made the batter for our pancakes. We used heat from the stove and the temperature changed. I knew it was a chemical change because there was a change of color, and bubbles were showing from underneath the pancake. It also turned from a watery batter into a fluffy pancake.

Social media

I think social media is not the best for these reasons. Firstly, it can cause a lot of drama and problems online. I heard that people get in to fights and they get injured because of social media. Secondly, I have no permission from my parents to go online. I always see my brothers on facebook and messenger, but when I even type up the word facebook I get in trouble. Thridly, what is social media?. Social media is facebook, messenger and all those other prgrammes people go on. Lastly, I know that social media is not for me. I feel that I can get into a lot of trouble, and I will just wait until I get to a certain age.

Maths T3W10 - Friday

crossword opuzzle.PNG

Today for maths we had to make a word puzzle on what we were learning for the past few weeks. It was fun learning about the different types of things that had to do with concentric circles. I would love to do this again some other time or in my own time. Next I would like to learn more things about concentric circles.

Writing T3W10

Walht: show not tell in our writing
Topic: Sports Camp

A few days ago we were off to sports camp. Some students already experienced how hard it was at sports camp. This was my second time going to Totara Springs. I was up in the clouds when I found out we were going again. It was just like last year but with different people. I recognised some familiar faces from other schools and the staff. I knew it was going to be a awesome five days.

Our first day there was a little bit boring but that night was a game that everyone enjoyed, It is called scramball. During scramball night everyone's faces were full of laughter and enjoyment. I never got hit in the face with the ball but it was so funny when other people get hit in the face with the ball. Everday was a new experience for me. When I found out that I was in the volleyball team I was very eager to play our first game. The girls volleyball team won all their games and made it into the semi finals. The boys won some of their games but didn’t qualify for the semi finals.

When it was time for the girls volleyball final, I was shaking. It was my sister’s 1st birthday and I couldn’t make it, that was why I did my best for her and the team. I looked over to my left side and there were the G.I students cheering for us. The game started and the referee blew the whistle for the other team to serve the ball. The first set was over and a school Maeroa won the first set. It was the second set and it was 14 all Maeroa scored one more point and they thought they won but we had to play until 16. We won the second set now it was time for the third and final set. “Beeeeeep”  The whistle went
Glen Innes School rushed to the volleyball court and celebrated. Maeroa girls were so emotional. It was a tough game but we got through it and won together.

At sports camp we only qualified for three semi finals, it was a total disappointment we did worse than last year’s group. But we won all three also the sportsmanship award. Sadly we only won four trophies. It was finally time to go home. Buses lined up and bags out of every single cabin, we had to clean our cabins then tell one of the staff ladies to come and tick it off there list. I didn’t want to leave Totara springs even though it was my last year I just wished we had earned more trophies than last year.

For the past few days we were learning about puns, which is a play of words. Each of us had to come up with our own pun online. If someone already done that pun then we had to find another pun. After we found a pun we had to draw it out. We glued the pun on top of the paper.

In this photo we did some brainwashing, like actually brainwashing. This was the starting of learning about puns. When Mrs told us we thought she was serious but then she got out a bowl, a squishy brain, and water. It was fun learning about puns.

Matific

For the past few weeks we have been playing matific. It is a programme where kids do maths. The goal is to try and win $50,000 in cash for the class or school. In matific I have 82 stars in the competition. This screenshot shows what level I am on. I really want our school ti win the money so we can buy a new park for the seniors.

Balloon volleyball

Screenshot 2017-08-15 at 2.46.38 PM.png

Last week Friday we went inside the hall to play some volleyball but in case of using a volleyball we used balloons. It was a lot of fun playing balloon volleyball because you will see people trying their hardest to slide across the hall to get the balloon back up in the air.

This week for maths we are learning how to add and subtract integers.  In the first screenshot I got 70% I know how to add and subtract integers but I don’t know how to do it with larger numbers. In the second screenshot it was the same thing but it was a lot easier. In the last screenshot I got it all right and it was kind of easy for me. I would practise these sites so I can get a better understanding of adding and subtracting integers.

Reading activities T3W2

Screenshot 2017-08-09 at 12.51.00 PM.pngScreenshot 2017-08-09 at 12.45.28 PM.png

For this weeks reading we had to choose four out of six activities then complete all four. After we completed the four we had to choose two activities that help us to get a better understanding of the topic. I chose to do activity one and four because the first one helped me gain more information on how to kill weeds and pests. Then on activity four I chose it because I wanted to make a poster on killing pests and weeds. Gaining more ideas was one of my goals I want to achieve.

Today Natalia and I weren't here to hear Ms Maude sing her maori song because I was with Mrs Thompson working on our movie we are making.  I hope we will be here next week for maori so I can listen to the whole class sing then I will join. I looked at the photos and it looked like a lot of fun.

Pizza winter blogging

IMG-4181.JPG

During lunch time eating Mrs collins shouted room eight by buying us pizza. She brought it for us because three out of 25 kids completed the winter learning journey. The reason I didn't do it was because I didn't have a device to go on.

Rounding to the nearest tenth

This week for maths we have been learning how to round off decimals to the nearest ten. I really enjoyed playing this maths games It helped me have a better understanding of what we were learning about. At first I didn't know how to round off decimals to the nearest ten. After my teacher explained to us if the number is higher than five then you add one, but if it is lower than five then the number just stays the same. This game was easy for me to do.

Football skills

Screenshot 2017-08-02 at 12.43.52 PM.png
While we were playing soccer we were separated into four groups. Our coach’s name was Steve he taught us a few skills. He was from Auckland football. These are some of the skills he taught us:

List skills
  1. Dribbling with the outside of our foot, the inside, our lace, and the sole of our shoe
  2. He told us not to kick with our toes
  3. We needed to work as a team
  4. Passing the ball
  5. Controlling the ball

If I had to give myself a score I would give myself a 5. I tried my best to get a score in the net. Out of all the skills I think that dribbling the ball was hard for me to master. I always kick the ball too hard or too short. If I want to go to sport camp and play soccer than I will need a lot of practise.

I can’t compare soccer to any of the sports I play. The only sport I play is netball and I don’t know how to compare it with netball.

When we were playing soccer it was a lot of fun. Playing soccer was really fun and I can’t wait until we play soccer again next week Wednesday.
