Walht: show not tell in our writing
Topic: Sports Camp

A few days ago we were off to sports camp. Some students already experienced how hard it was at sports camp. This was my second time going to Totara Springs. I was up in the clouds when I found out we were going again. It was just like last year but with different people. I recognised some familiar faces from other schools and the staff. I knew it was going to be a awesome five days.

Our first day there was a little bit boring but that night was a game that everyone enjoyed, It is called scramball. During scramball night everyone's faces were full of laughter and enjoyment. I never got hit in the face with the ball but it was so funny when other people get hit in the face with the ball. Everday was a new experience for me. When I found out that I was in the volleyball team I was very eager to play our first game. The girls volleyball team won all their games and made it into the semi finals. The boys won some of their games but didn’t qualify for the semi finals.

When it was time for the girls volleyball final, I was shaking. It was my sister’s 1st birthday and I couldn’t make it, that was why I did my best for her and the team. I looked over to my left side and there were the G.I students cheering for us. The game started and the referee blew the whistle for the other team to serve the ball. The first set was over and a school Maeroa won the first set. It was the second set and it was 14 all Maeroa scored one more point and they thought they won but we had to play until 16. We won the second set now it was time for the third and final set. “Beeeeeep”  The whistle went
Glen Innes School rushed to the volleyball court and celebrated. Maeroa girls were so emotional. It was a tough game but we got through it and won together.

At sports camp we only qualified for three semi finals, it was a total disappointment we did worse than last year’s group. But we won all three also the sportsmanship award. Sadly we only won four trophies. It was finally time to go home. Buses lined up and bags out of every single cabin, we had to clean our cabins then tell one of the staff ladies to come and tick it off there list. I didn’t want to leave Totara springs even though it was my last year I just wished we had earned more trophies than last year.
